This summer, we had the pleasure of showcasing our Yakisugi Okopod garden room at the RHS Flower Show Tatton Park. Partnering with DMB Architects, the pod was part of ‘The 1804 Garden’, designed by the talented Carolyn Hardern and Jon Jarvis.

We were thrilled to be invited by the landscape designers to be a part of this year’s show, especially as the landscaping had a powerful message, raising awareness for skin cancer. ‘The 1804 Garden’ gets its name from the year melanoma was first mentioned in medical literature – 1804. The design featured a striking corten sculpture at its center, surrounded by wildflower plantings, bee hives, bug hotels, and sitting rocks.

The immersive design allowed visitors to explore and enjoy the space, taking in the natural beauty under the trees and among the pollinator-friendly wildflowers. After the show, the planting will be relocated to The Harbour Mental Health facility in Blackpool, continuing to bring joy and awareness.

We were proud to see the landscape design awarded a Silver Medal by the Royal Horticultural Society.

Our Yakisugi Okopod on display is a slight variation of our porch pod. We angled the porch into the doors to create a more inviting entryway. The siding, with a 2” profile, complements the sleek aluminum doors and windows, finished in anthracite grey, one of our standard colors.

Since the show, the Pod has been relocated to its new home with our clients in Cheltenham.
