Creating the Ideal Artist’s Studio

Our client, a painter, needed a dedicated space to work on their art without the hassle of constantly packing up supplies. Their current home setup wasn’t working, so we suggested a backyard pod, a tranquil, self-contained studio at the end of their garden. The result was a custom Okopod that perfectly combined practicality and style.

Yakisugi: Combining Tradition and Durability

The standout feature of this backyard room is its yakisugi cladding. This Japanese technique involves charring wood to make it more durable and resistant to weather, insects, and decay. Here’s why we chose yakisugi:

  • Durability: It protects the wood from natural wear and tear, perfect for outdoor structures.
  • Low Maintenance: The charred wood requires little upkeep.
  • Natural Beauty: Its’ dark, textured finish blends with the backyard.
  • Eco-Friendly: Extends the wood’s lifespan without harmful treatments.
  • Fire Resistance: The charred surface adds an extra layer of fire safety.

A Modern, Minimalist Design

We paired the yakisugi with jet-black aluminum sliding doors for a modern, sleek aesthetic. The large glass doors allow plenty of natural light, creating the perfect environment for painting. Inside, the minimal design offers a flexible, open space, giving the client freedom to customize it to their needs.

A Creative Sanctuary

Our client loves their new backyard pod. It’s not just a workspace, but a personal retreat where they can focus on their art. With the ability to leave their materials out, they can return to their creative process whenever inspiration strikes.

This pod is more than just a studio, it’s a long-lasting, beautiful space that supports creativity. If you’re considering a backyard room for your own retreat, we’d love to help make it a reality, just like we did for this artist.
