Our Promise To The Planet

Energy Efficient PODs

Our PODs are more air-tight than conventional construction. We can also provide infra red heaters so your space will heat up quicker than just about any other heating solution, and because they warm up the objects in the room (rather than the air in the room), you’ll feel the effects a lot quicker too. The cost of running an infrared panel versus an electrical convection heater is far cheaper as they require less power output to provide the same level of heat. Every POD also comes with natural fibre Thermafleece insulation, which together with the air-tight construction method means they will retain their heat better in the winter.

Reduced Carbon Footprint.

We use low carbon aluminum made by electricity through hydropower plants.Our thermafleece insulation has a low embodied energy of manufacture for every tonne manufactured, more than 300kg of carbon dioxide is removed from the atmosphere. Our cork flooring is Corka which is carbon negative and is the recipient of a prestigious Blue Angel rating which is a German Government scheme which awards exceptionally environmentally friendly products.

Minimal Construction Waste.

Our approach generates ⅕ of the waste compared to traditional construction methods.

Nature

PODs can benefit from the addition of a sedum roof, this acts as natural insulation, regulating the temperature inside which can reduce the need for artificial heating or cooling, aligning with the eco-friendly principles of the OKOPOD design. Importantly the sedum plants on the roof attract pollinators, contributing to local biodiversity. The sedum plants are known for their low maintenance requirements. This aligns with the Okopod’s low to no maintenance approach.

Funding Reforestation Initiatives

The birch trees we use are a fast-growing species native to north-eastern Europe, the abundance and speed of growth of Birch trees means that it causes minimal devastation or destruction of biodiversity when they are cut down, making Birch plywood a sustainable choice that has little impact on the environment. We also have a programme for planting trees, for every POD we sell.

Exceptional Longevity

Our buildings are designed to last, offering longevity and durability for generations to come.

Airtight Construction

Building off-site in a controlled environment means we can be precise when we build, which means the final build will be more air-tight than onsite building. Airtightness improves energy efficiency and indoor air quality, ensuring a comfortable environment all year-round.

Low Maintenance Materials

We use materials which require little to no maintenance. Cladding will naturally silver to a beautiful colour, lasting for at least 35-80 years dependent on material. Our doors and windows are made from aluminium and our roof substrate is EPDM rubber, none which require maintenance.

Highly Insulated


We opt for sustainable insulation materials like sheepswool, meeting or exceeding building regulations. Our Pods feature timber frame construction, maximizing insulation compared to brick, and enhancing energy efficiency and comfort.

Sedum Roof

Functions as a rainwater buffer, absorbs CO2 to improve air quality, and conserves energy by reducing heat loss and regulating indoor temperature, while also fostering biodiversity. As well as looking stunning throughout the year.

High Performance Windows

Our windows minimise heat transfer, reducing drafts and energy bills while enhancing overall performance.

Thermally Efficient Materials

We select materials that help regulate temperature, minimising heat loss in winter and keeping interiors cool in summer.

High Quality Waterproofing

Our structures feature premium waterproofing systems for long lasting protection.

Eco Air-Conditioning Unit

We partner with ‘Midea’ who supply walled mounted highly efficient (SEER A++) units which operate at an affordable price. They also have a unique ‘Follow Me’ Sensitive Cooling function which measures the air temperature around you to deliver a perfectly adjusted comfort level.

Lean Manufacturing ‘Total Elimination of Waste’

A key part of what makes Okopod special is our commitment to sustainability. This is done by using natural materials wherever possible, efficient use of natural resources and a drive to reduce waste wherever possible.

We apply this approach to all areas of the business including the sales and manufacturing processes. We follow lean manufacturing guidelines, the approach used by all major car manufacturers, to produce high quality product, on time and to specification. This originated from Japan, specifically Toyota, and is sometimes known as the Toyota Production System (TPS).

There are lots of different tools, processes and methodologies to TPS, but the overarching principle is the “total elimination of waste”. At Okopod we use several techniques and tools to optimise our production and to ensure that our customers get what they want, when they want it.
