One Bed ADU Make the most out of your home.

This project is a great example of how a Backyard ADU can completely transform a family home. For this family living in a terraced-style house, space in the main home was running out. Rather than move, they decided to expand their living area by adding a custom-built ADU (Accessory Dwelling Unit) in their backyard.

At the back of the property sat an old garage that was no longer being used. Working closely with the Okopod design team, the family removed the existing structure and replaced it with a modern Backyard ADU that includes a bedroom, kitchenette, and bathroom, creating a fully self-contained living space that’s ideal for guests, older family members, or future rental use.

Clad in Kebony Cladding, this modern ADU blends beautifully with its surroundings while offering exceptional durability and sustainability. Three floor-to-ceiling windows and large sliding glass doors fill the space with natural light, giving the interior an open, inviting atmosphere that connects directly to the backyard. To keep the layout clean and efficient, an infrared ceiling heater was installed, maximizing wall space and maintaining a sleek, uncluttered design.

This Backyard ADU demonstrates how innovative design and modular construction can create flexible, high-quality living space without the need for a major home renovation.
